Located just over an hour from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula is the historic port town of Goolwa, positioned at the mouth of the mighty Murray River. Only a stones throw from some of the most prestigious surf beaches.

The resort is set on about one acre of manicured grounds and feature 20 well equipped 2 bedroom units on 2 different levels. Goolwa was Australia’s first inland port. The paddle steamer ‘Oscar W’, built in 1908, still runs river tours from the main wharf. The beginning of Australia’s first railway line was also a historic milestone for Goolwa. It was used for transportation of goods, firstly to Port Elliot, before being extended to Victor Harbor. The famous ‘Cockle Train’ still travels along that same route on the original broad gauge tracks. A trip not to be missed as it winds its way through some magnificent coastal scenery. Goolwa (named after the Ngarrindjeri word meaning ‘elbow’) was the first non-European town to be awarded the name of ‘Cittaslow’ meaning ‘slow town’. Judged on 5 different criteria (environment, infrastructure, quality of urban fabric, local produce and products, hospitality, awareness and education), there is bound to be something for people of all ages to experience and enjoy.

Hindmarsh Island, found just across the river from Goolwa is now accessible by a short drive across a large superstructure bridge known as the ‘Hindmarsh Island Bridge’. The old cable ferry discontinued running after 140 years of use in 2001. Hindmarsh Island is very unique as it has fresh water on its northern shores and seawater on its southern shores, perfect for any fishing enthusiast. Here on the Island is the starting point of the spectacular ‘Coorong Cruise’. It also boasts the largest marina in the Southern Hemisphere.

Goolwa also provides many opportunities to keep physically active. These include two golf courses within the town (9 holes at Goolwa Golf Course and 18 holes at South Lakes Golf Club), a fully sealed bike track which will take you from the resort to Victor Harbor, historic guided walks from the town centre, a huge variety of water sports and a new skate park built just off the main street of town.

Just out of Goolwa you will find Victor Harbor, known for its Fairy Penguins and Clydesdale horse-drawn carts. Middleton, which is a popular meeting spot for young adults to enjoy surfing and body boarding. Currency Creek wine region with several boutique wineries and intimate gourmet restaurants. McLaren Vale, a huge wine making area, famous for the Almond Train and Medlow’s Chocolate factory. Also for those who wish to explore further afield, the famous wine growing region of the Barossa Valley is an easy day trip and the Adelaide Hills village of Hahndorf displays it German heritage. Westfield Marion, is only 45 minutes away, known to be the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere.

From Airport:  Turn right into Sir Donald Bradman Road, then right into Marion Road.  Follow Marion Road to South Road, turn right and continue to Victor Harbor.  Take the Goolwa turnoff 2km past Mount Compass.  Travel time is approximately 90 minutes.

From Melbourne:  Approximately 5km before Tailem Bend turn left towards Meningie (Highway 1).  Turn right at Wellington sign (approximately 10km).  Follow signs through Strathalbyn to Goolwa

Goolwa:  Follow the main street through town.  Turn left at the Service Station.  Turn left at the ‘T’ intersection (Barrage Road).  The resort is approximately 1.5km on the right.
